AIESEC strives to develop leadership in young people. But what does that mean? What does it mean to be a leader? There are many definitions…
“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” – Warren Bennis
“I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together.” – Queen Elizabeth II
“No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.” – Andrew Carnegie
Those are just some of many interpretations of leadership. That’s the thing: there is not one textbook definition. Leadership can mean engaging people to follow what you are doing, to inspire them to do things the way they think they’re right, to create a vision and make others see it etc.
Leadership is something you define for yourself. One thing that can be said is that having strong leadership skills can get you much further! AIESEC is centered around leadership. Both in our exchange programs as well as in our Membership program we are developing leadership by making young people solution oriented, helping them to empower others, guiding them towards self-awareness and assisting them towards becoming world citizens. Those are the 4 qualities that we believe make a great leader.
But it’s not just AIESEC that believes leadership is vital! According to NACE’s Job Outlook Survey, 80% of employers are looking for leadership experience on the resumes of potential employees.
One of our programs through which you can develop leadership is Global Talent – a long-term, professional internship experience.
Find more information about it here and activate your leadership. And don’t forget that we have our Christmas Sale until the 25th of December 2016 meaning if you apply until then and go abroad by the end of February, you get 20% off of our exchange fee.
