If you never try, you’ll never know

Trying new things in life is scary. We love to say that we don’t have time, money or the possibilities to do something – but it’s all out of fear.

The thing we don’t realize is, that actually trying new things, putting yourself in a new environment and getting out of your comfort zone can be the most amazing experienceOne of the most popular things for us to do is to make excuses.

Don Wilder said, “Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.”

Of course, some of us are lucky enough to have a life that is relatively okay – having enough money to survive, having friends and family that support you. But how do you know that there is not something else out there? Something more that you are missing out on because you’re afraid to take that one extra step and to take a risk.

If we look at successful people in history – they all had to take risks. Developing ideas that nobody else believed in or going to places they didn’t know. Without those risks, they wouldn’t have achieved anything. Looking at more recent history, would Bill Gates be as successful as he is now if he hadn’t dropped out of Harvard to found Microsoft? Would J.K. Rowling be as accomplished as she is now if she hadn’t believed in her stories, even after countless rejections from different publishers?

The answer is short and simple: NO.

Every successful person in history had to take a risk at some point – to stop making excuses and just jump into the cold water. Of course, you never know if it will pay off – but if you don’t try you will never know. In AIESEC we try to encourage that kind of thinking.

Our exchange programs give you great opportunities both for personal and for professional development. But it can be scary to go abroad to a new country and work there for a certain amount of time. However, instead of making excuses, just try it and we are sure you will have an amazing experience and you will activate yourself in the process.

With our Global Talent program you can go abroad for a longer period of time and work as an intern in a company.
